Keep neighboring places together and protect time for altitude adjustment, weather changes and long overland sectors. A first journey can stay with Kunming, Dali and Lijiang; a mountain-focused trip can continue toward Shangri-La and Meili; a tea-and-rainforest journey belongs farther south; and Yuanyang or Puzhehei works best as a deliberate regional circuit.
